William Chidley 1860-1916 was an eccentric whose sexual and social theories brought him into trouble with the authorities particularly in the period 1911-1916. His case was debated in NSW Parliament and a Chidley Defence Committee formed in 1916. In 1899 Chidley sent the manuscript of his autobiography The Confessions of William James Chidley to Havelock Ellis.
